The letters and their ambiguity in Persian poetry

Abstract

In grammar, the most important function of letters is usually considered to be grammatical role-building, which leads to the formation of complements, objects, additions, etc. On the other hand, in rhetoric, ambiguity is mostly seen in words such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. In the present study, an attempt is made to combine the topics of grammar and rhetoric in the topic of letters, while also addressing the ambiguity uses of letters. This research shows that letters not only have the characteristic of ambiguity, but also lead to grammatical, rhetorical, semantic, and readability distinctions in the text by ambiguity. For this purpose, the present topic has been categorized and explained by examining numerous poetic evidence. The results of the study show that the effect of letters in ambiguity and creating changes in the superstructure and deep structure of the language of poetry is very important and significant, and its effect is no less than that of other types of words, and sometimes it leads to the creation of very artistic verses. The present study is organized into three main topics: grammatical ambiguity of letters, rhetorical ambiguity of letters, and reading ambiguity of letters, and has analyzed and explained the subject with numerous poetic evidence. This study has been conducted in a descriptive and analytical manner, based on library resources.
