Abstract

Cognitive study sheds light on some unknown angles of the literary text. Therefore, it is effective to use the theory of conceptual metaphors as a useful tool to better understand the literary work. In this article, by descriptive-analytical method, the rhetorical function of adjectives is investigated through the theory of conceptual metaphors. Adjectives appear in all syntactic positions and have significant semantic and rhetorical capacity. Using this possibility, Hafez has expanded the meaning and created rhetorical images and has based the rhetoric of adjectives on cognitive domains. Therefore, it becomes necessary to describe the cognitive function of adjectives has described to explain their rhetorical function. In this research. primarily the cognitive function of each rhetorical category has been described, then cognitive and artistic function of the adjectives and their roles in the rhetorical cycle of verse have been described through examples. Another result of this cognitive-rhetorical approach is the correction of texts by means of hidden cognitive domains The rhetorical cognitive description of adjectives clarifies the philosophy of rhetorical devices. Emendation of versions by hidden cognitive domains is another result of this approach. This research is in the descriptive analytical method.
