Nostalgia or homesickness is a wistful longing for motherland and the past, and a yearning for former conditions regarded as utopian by the poet at the time being. Psychologists consider nostalgia as a complex sense of stimulating sentimentality which is sometimes manifested as sorrow and desire to return home, and some other times as a sense of frustration as a result of recollecting one’s country. Political, social, and economic situation, as well as poverty, immigration, and separation from one’s homeland are immensely effective in arousing this feeling. Using descriptive analysis and studying Abu Madi’s poetry book, the present research aims to explore homesickness in his works and analyze his personality and perspectives in association with this subject. The results of this study show that the sense of nostalgia is extremely evident in the works of this Lebanese contemporary poet. Separation from motherland, recollecting sweet memories of childhood and youth, sense of solitude in society, being away from his beloved, and hatred towards domestic totalitarianism and foreign colonialism are among the leading factors to stimulate nostalgia in Abu Madi. Yearning for the past places and time periods, as well as social, mental, sentimental, and political ideals are some nostalgic representations studied in this article. The poet’s susceptibility to situational conditions, and his special personality characteristics leading to nostalgic elements in his poetry are among the most important results concluded from the present research.

The tale of “Leili and Majnun” is a narrative by “Nami” related to Zand dynasty. Nami who was a diarist for Karim Khan Zand, in addition to “Leili and Majnun”, has also written epics such as “Ganj e Gohar”, “Khosrow and Sirin”, “Vamiq and Adhra”, as well as a prose style book named “Tarikhe e Giti Gosha”. Of course, “Yousof and Zoleikha” is also attributed to Nami but this paper tries to explore the accuracy and fallacy of this claim. The tale of “Leili and Majnun” by Nami is an adaptation of the same sentimental love story by Nizami. Among those who have written “Leili and Majnun”, it seems that Nami has been affected by “Maktabi” in addition to Nezami. This research study briefly reviews the life and works of Nami, and also analyzes the literary elements of his “Leili and Majnun” compared with a similar tale by Nizami. Besides, it is attempted in this article to explore the effects of other narrators of Leili and Majnun such as Maktabi, Jami, and Amir Khosrow on this narrative poem of Nami.

Nizami Ganjavi made ceremonial and lyrical story style as perfect as possible at the end of the 6th century AH. After him, many poets such as Hatefi have tried to manifest their artistic skills through writing similar poetry books, although none of them have reached the outstanding status of Nizami. This study aims to analyze the literary elements in two romances named “Khosrow and Shirin” by Nizami and “Shirin and Khosrow” by Hatefi, and by identifying their pros and cons, it seeks a deeper and better understanding of them. In this research, the distinct features of these two books in terms of literary elements (conflict, challenge, denouement, incident), characterization, and setting are explored. This paper shows that Hatefi has not accomplished well in imitating Nizami’s romance poetry so the literary elements have weakly been represented throughout his poetry leading to a less developed plot compared to Nizami’s. The present research has been conducted using descriptive analysis.

With the emergence of novel approaches to literature in the 20th century, Joseph Campbell redefined the field of mythological criticism by developing the idea of “hero's journey archetype”. After studying a wide variety of myths from different nations, he concluded that the hero progresses from the beginning to the end of a story through a shared formula in the form of a mental template which is repeated in all stories with minor variations. Bizhan and Manizheh is a love story in Shahnameh which can readily lend itself to analysis based on mythological criticism. Thus, by making a comparison between the developmental stages of a hero through “hero’s journey archetype of Campbell” and the tale of “Bizhan and Manizheh”, it is attempted in this article to analyze the commonalities and also the role of each characters in the tale based on this criticism. Base on Campbell’s archetype, the present review reveals that Bizhan as the hero of the story leaves the ordinary world behind. Having overcome three stages of “departure”, “initiation” and “return”, he then comes back to his land with a transformed personality which is represented by his marriage to Manizheh.

In Persian literature, there is rarely a poet who is affected by Quran and Hadith (tradition) as much as Saadi is. From the outset of Bustan, he demonstrates his unique mastery of word of God and traditions. Like other Persian orators and writers, he has made use of Quran and Hadith through novel and various methods. For instance, his speech is sometimes ornamented with either part of a verse or Hadith or with their meaning, and sometimes with allusions to some concepts. Indeed, Quran is the main role model and structure for Saadi. He has focused on this holy book to assert his ethical philosophy, praise God, teach Islamic-ethical principles, and to remind practical lessons in life. Saadi does not directly demonstrate his influence from Quran but rather he applies Quranic teaching principles to create the setting of his poetry and anecdotes. Therefore, Quranic approach is evident in his phraseology, choice of words, tendency to Saj’ and space, and even his rhythmic sentences.

Rhythm (metre) is one of the effective and important factors which facilitates the creation and influence of poetic structure. Poetry is basically a means to express and reflect the inner feeling of the poet, and rhythm is an instrument to convey this feeling and sentiment. The authors in this research article seek to investigate four parts of outer, lateral, inner, and spiritual rhythm in the poems of Badr al-Din Chachi and consequently answer to the following research questions: How is the state of outer and lateral rhythm in the odes of Badr al-Din Chachi? What are the elements of inner rhythm in his odes? How is the state of spiritual rhythm and figures of speech in his odes? The results of this research which is conducted through descriptive analysis reveal that rhythm or metre is one of the most significant elements in the poetry of Badr al-Din Chachi. Using common and recurrent rhythms, complex and heavy Radifs, scarce rhymes, pun, repetition and so on, he has paid special attention to rhythm in his poetry.

Using the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hassan (1985) in functional linguistics, this study aims to analyze cohesion and coherence in Manoochehri’s poetry with approach to “recurrent words” in his verses. The objective of the research is to verify how the verses of his Diwan fulfill the semantic relation of cohesive chains. According to Hasan and Halliday theory, cohesion is the relations of meaning that exist within the elements of the texts. However, having cohesion elements in the text does not necessarily make it cohesive as after verifying cohesive elements, it is also essential to evaluate the coherence in the text in terms of cohesive harmony. The results of this study confirm that there is high cohesion and coherence in the verses of Manoochehri. From among 456 cohesive ties studied in this article, it was found that in “lexical cohesion” out of 189 ties, “reiteration” (41.4%), ”repetition” with 119 ties (26.1%), "collocation” with 34 times (7.4%), “semantic contrast” with 19 times (4.2%), “synonymy” with 9 items (2%), and “hyponymy” with 8 items (1.7%) had the lowest lexical frequency respectively. As for “grammatical cohesion”, the results indicated that the frequencies are respectively as follows: “personal and referential references” with 99 items (21.7%), “conjunctives” with 72 items 915.8%), “ellipsis” with 68 items (14.9%), “comparison reference” with 18 item (4%), and “substitution” with 10 times (2.2%)
